Change Management

'Change Management' happens to be the hottest topic of discussion in corporate circles as well as in Management classes of late. The topic demands exhaustive discussion, but such discussion can be meaningful only if the concept of 'Change Management' is properly understood.

With the advent of globalization, courtesy scientific and technological developments and communication revolution, the pressure on corporates to be more and more dynamic increased as never before. The required dynamism is possible only when the corporates or business enterprises constantly review their resources and strategies and 'change' them and tailor them according to the demands of the market and needs of the customers. the changes can be in nature of the workforce, technology, manufacturing processes and the like. sometimes, the changes may be due to such factors as economic shocks, increasing competition, changing social trends and developments in international politics.

When change becomes inevitable and the corporates and business enterprises plan to implement the required changes, it is absolutely inevitable that the working conditions of the workforce will be affected. There many be redundancies, retrenchments, pay cuts and demands for honing up skills and learning new technologies. The workforce, normally do not like such drastic changes and try to resist. The situation may lead to unrest in the corporate and its functioning may be derailed.

It is, therefore imperative, that any significant and huge changes should be carefully planned and implemented taking into confidence the workforce and educating them regarding the essentiality of the change. The process of initiating and implementing the required changes is ‘Change Management'. In other words ‘Change Management’ is nothing but facilitating (Management) of smooth implementation of changes in an organization.
