Roland Morris Disability Questionnaire (RM-24)--Purpose, Target Population

1.  Roland- Morris Disability Questionnaire
The Roland- Morris Disability Questionnaire established by Roland (1983) consists of 24 questions relating to physical functions useful for assessment of disability from LBP. The questions can be answered by Yes/ No. The physical functions are lying down sitting, walking, bending over, dressing, self care, sleeping and various other daily activities. The questionnaire has been compiled by making use of the statements figuring in the Sickness Impact Profile (SIP). The Sickness Impact Profile (SIP) is a measure of status of health containing 136 items of information relating to various physical and mental functions of daily living. There is a six-point scale for rating the pain in the original RDQ. This looks like pain thermometer. But some authors have preference for the SF-36.

2.      Purpose of the Tool
The purpose of the Questionnaire (RMQ) is to make an assessment of the status of the pain-related disability apart from assessing functional status in patients suffering from LBP or Low Back Pain.

3. Target Population
Patients suffering with disability from Low Back Pain are the test’s target population. The tool is primarily used with patients who are suffering from acute back ache. At the same time it can be used for patients suffering from chronic pain as well as sub acute pain. Additionally, the tool can be utilised for testing different surgical, conservative and behavioural intervention groups.
