Reliability ,Validity and Consistency of Turkish version of Roland -Morris Disability Questionnaire(RM-24) for LBP patients

Küçükdeveci et al. (2001) conducted study for the reliability of a previously translated Turkish version of RMDQ for LBP patients on a sample size of 81 outpatients suffering from LBP out of whom 64 had follow-up on second occasion. There was assessment of reliability using ICC (Interclass Correlation Coefficient) and consistency present internally.

Küçükdeveci etal. (2001) conducted study for the validity of the Turkish version of RMDQ. The study objective is to validate RMDQ in the Turkish language version for usage in low back pain. Epidemiologic and clinical research connected with low back pain in the population of turkey will be well facilitated with the availability of the outcome measures that are well established.Regarding the methods for conducting the study a sample size of 81 outpatients suffering with LBP are taken, Of them, 64 outpatients had follow up on 2nd occasion. These 81 outpatients were assessed by RMDQ. Rasch analysis was assessed by the validity of internal construct. Assessment of the validity of external construct was done by the association with spinal movement and pain, There was test with responsiveness by using both parametric and nonparametric effect sizes. As result of the study, RMDQ’s internal consistency was found to be adequate (> 0.85) at both the times. The same is the case with interclasscorrelation coefficient. Validity of the scale for internal construct is good. This indicates a single construct that is underlying. Validity of external construct is confirmed with expected associations with pain. There is very little evidence of the functioning of differential item. The scale will be present at ordinal level. There is good responsiveness of RMDQ .Also there more than expected change in the spinal movement.

In the study conducted by Küçükdeveci etal. (2001) for the reliability of a previously translated Turkish version of RMDQ for LBP patients on a sample size of 81 outpatients suffering from LBP out of whom 64 had follow-up on second occasion., it was found that  consistency was present internally. There was test with responsiveness by using both parametric and nonparametric effect sizes. As result of the study, RMDQ’s internal consistency was found to be adequate (> 0.85) at both the times.

The RMDQ works well with Turkish population. It is considered to be the ordinal, unidimensional and robust measure which is mostly free from differential item functioning. The effect sizes of non-parametric nature on ordinal scales are found to either underestimate or overestimate the actual effect size basing on nature of the scale and baseline distribution of patients
